Mixit – Success Story

The story of Mixit shows how a small idea can grow into a successful business with thousands of loyal, returning customers.

From the very beginning, Mixit’s founders, Martin Wallner and Tomáš Huber, had a clear vision: to offer something unique that was missing in the Czech market. They saw an opportunity in muesli – they were the first to let customers create their own custom mixes. They started with a small e-shop, where their first customers were friends and acquaintances. Growth came mainly thanks to social media. “It was an opportunity we instinctively seized, allowing us to reach a broad target audience with minimal costs,” recalls Martin Wallner.

A major turning point came when orders began to grow steadily and customers kept coming back. That’s when the founders realized this wasn’t just a side project or a short-lived trend – it had the potential to become a full-fledged business. Another milestone was hiring their first employees and moving to a larger warehouse. This shift confirmed that Mixit was no longer just a hobby, but a company that could support an entire team. Soon, offers started coming from major retail partners and supermarket chains, confirming they were on the right path.

None of it would be possible without a quality payment solution

To ensure that visitors to the e-shop completed their orders and kept returning, Mixit needed not only quality products and marketing, but also a reliable and convenient payment solution. That’s where a partnership with a trusted payment service provider – PayU – came in. “PayU offered us the best conditions and a smoother payment process, so we decided to go with them,” says Tomáš Huber. Thanks to PayU, Mixit was able to offer a wide range of payment methods, which increased customer trust and supported steady growth.

When Mixit began expanding abroad, new challenges arose that required an individual approach. The first foreign market was Slovakia, followed by Poland and Hungary. “Each market has its own specifics when it comes to payment methods, and some of them were new challenges for us,” says the founder. In Slovakia, for example, customers often prefer cash on delivery, though digital wallets are becoming more popular. In Poland, local online bank payments are widely used. One of the most important payment methods in Poland turned out to be BLIK – a widely adopted payment system that allows users to pay quickly using a six-digit code. “We quickly realized that without BLIK, we would miss out on a large portion of the market, so we prioritized integrating it. Thanks to PayU, we were able to implement it seamlessly and provide our Polish customers with familiar, trusted payment options,” says Tomáš Huber.

Customer payment behavior shapes the business

Even product development at Mixit has been influenced by how customers behave during the payment process. This has led the company to adapt both its pricing and packaging strategies to better suit each sales channel. Regardless of the channel, however, fast and reliable payment options are key to ensuring customers complete their purchases.

Seasonal spikes in demand – especially around Christmas or during New Year’s resolutions – also put pressure on Mixit’s systems. In these periods, even small payment issues can lead to lost sales. As Wallner explains: “If payments are delayed or fail at these critical moments, you lose the customer. PayU helped us scale with confidence because we knew the infrastructure could handle it.”

To stay ahead, Mixit also focuses on optimizing mobile payments. “For Mixit, we’ve also ensured the integration of Apple Pay and Google Pay, so their customers can complete orders literally in just a few clicks. These fast and convenient payment methods are now a must, especially for younger generations,” says Martin Prunner, Country Manager of PayU GPO for the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.

Reliable support for expansion

Rapid growth and expansion would have been much more difficult without partners like PayU, who provided a stable and reliable payment infrastructure. “Without a quality payment gateway, we wouldn’t have been able to offer a smooth shopping experience to our customers, especially in new countries. The flexibility and simplicity of PayU’s solution allowed us to focus on what matters most – innovation, expanding our product range, and improving customer experience,” explains Martin Wallner.

Today, Mixit is not just an e-shop, but a successful and well-known brand established in several European markets. Their collaboration with PayU continues to help them respond quickly to payment trends, integrate necessary solutions across markets, and provide customers with a smooth, seamless way to buy quality food.
