PayU teams up with Klarna

BNPL is now available on Allegro.cz and for other Czech merchants

Prague, 7 October 2025 – PayU is adding BNPL by Klarna to the range of payment methods in Czechia, giving millions of customers the option to shop with greater flexibility. Following their successful partnership in Poland, the two fintech companies are now bringing this cooperation to another e-commerce market with strong growth potential and demand for innovative payment solutions.

Allegro.cz is one of the first major online marketplaces to offer Klarna’s “Pay in 30 days” or “Pay in 3 interest-free installments” solutions. Other merchants using the PayU payment gateway in Czechia will soon follow, as Klarna will appear automatically among the available methods on the PayU payment page, without the need to sign any documents or implement technical changes.

Flexibility of payments comes first

Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) options are becoming a mainstream expectation across Europe. According to a recent survey*, 55% of Czechs are already familiar with the concept, while a quarter have already tried it themselves, and adoption is expected to rise. The model gives shoppers greater freedom by allowing them to spread the cost of purchases without postponing the order, providing them with greater ease of payment at checkout, and the possibility to add more items to their basket without upfront payment. At the same time, it supports merchants by driving higher conversion rates, increasing average basket sizes, and strengthening customer loyalty.

“BNPL represents a shift in thinking, where flexibility comes first for the online shopper,” said Martin Prunner, Country Manager of PayU GPO in Czechia and Slovakia. “After the strong success we’ve seen in Poland, we are confident this solution will also help Czech merchants boost their sales while giving customers more choice and flexibility – with seamless integration and no extra paperwork.”

“Klarna’s payment solutions, although already available in the Czechia, will gain even wider reach among local merchants and customers thanks to the strategic cooperation with Allegroand PayU. This is another step in strengthening our position in the CEE market and, at the same time, proof of the growing importance of flexible payment methods. We are seeing that consumers are increasingly opting for the “buy now, pay later” model and interest-free three-installment payments, and e-retailers are reaping real business benefits as a result, from higher basket values to customer loyalty,” emphasized Łukasz Dwulit, Head of CEE at Klarna.

Benefits for the whole market

Through its long-standing payments partner PayU, online marketplace Allegro.cz will introduce Klarna’s deferred payments to millions of local customers. “Our average basket value in Czechia continues to grow. We believe deferred payments will further support customers by giving them the ease of receiving their order before completing the payment. At the same time, BNPL brings clear benefits to merchants on Allegro.cz, offering a popular payment option that helps drive higher conversion rates,” said Rafał Czernik, VP at Allegro.

For merchants, BNPL integration brings clear commercial value. It improves cash flow, as they receive payment upfront from Klarna while the provider assumes responsibility for customer repayment management. With flexible payments, customers often add more to their carts, and merchants typically see order values increase by up to 40%.

According to the latest market research, the BNPL market in Europe is forecast to grow 12.4% annually to reach CZK 4.46 trillion (US$191.3 billion) in 2025 and expand to nearly CZK 6.85 trillion (US$294 billion) by 2030. Czech market is expected to follow this trend as more merchants and consumers discover the benefits of deferred payments.
